Deborah King on Excellence and Civility in Business
On excellent customer service~
Would you like to do business with you? That is an interesting question. People will drive further and spend more to be treated well - even in challenging economic times. Those who provide a quality product, and outstanding customer service, will experience greater loyalty and business stability.
What are you selling, and who is your customer? Whether or not you work for a company, you are selling yourself every day to those you meet. From the moment you get up in the morning, until you crawl back into bed at night, you are continually announcing who you are and what type of service you offer. You serve others on the job, at church, in friendships and at home. Would others describe you as first-class, or second hand?
Are you someone others can trust? Can others count on you to do what you say; when you said you would do it? Are you on time for appointments? Is your clothing and grooming neat and appropriate? Do you maintain a positive attitude? Do you greet others and make them feel comfortable in conversation? Are you a good listener? Are your words kind and uplifting? Are others better because they interacted with you? These are qualities of first-class service.
On Civility~
Things said or done hastily are often regretted. Make a habit of thinking before you say something or do something. Ask yourself:
- Who may be impacted by my words or actions? Make a list.
- Is what I am about to say or do kind and respectful to all?
Your Mom was right, if you don’t have something nice to say, better to say nothing at all!
